Pretty remarkable. An awesome song by Macklemore & Ryan ( featured in an earlier post) but to my knowledge this is the first place it has charted much less hit #1. Via Same Same ( @samesame on Twitter) click them to read more. They also featured this lovely remake of the song by a young guy which is pretty poignant and current.
I watched this when it was first uploaded and while I loved the general message even if I didn’t necessarily agree with some things like him and his former partner praying to change. Then, I thought about it and it really is his story and his life. The message is powerful.
“In 18 days you can let them turn the clock back 60 years for immigrants, gays and women or you can stand up and say we are a country where everyone has a place.” The inclusiveness gets powerful at 19:45. Great to see him back in top form.
Spirit Day 2012 and the spirit of support expands around the world showing bullied kids and bullied LGBT kids in particular that they have allies everywhere. Wear purple…such an easy way to make a difference and if a kid comes up to you as a result thank your lucky stars that you have been privileged to offer support and safe harbor.
The great young people at the Silver Lining Foundatiopn in T&T have created a new anti-bullying campaign with a special emphasis on LGBT kids. Proud of them as always. Why not make your own to support them.
This is a group that I am part of and it is really important. I serve as an adviser but it is an amazing group of young people working to help fight against bullying in schools with a special emphasis on LGBT kids. This might be be very cool in other places but in Trinidad and Tobago it verges on radical because of the hostile legal environment and the acceptable discrimination that exists. Rian did a wonderful job of explaining the SLF on my program and I am extremely proud of him as I am of the rest of my Silver Lining Foundation family.
